Spicy Lentil Balls (Dry) / Dal ki Goli :

This one is a delicious recipe from the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.
It can be prepared using yellow moong dal or even urad dal.
This recipe forms a very nice side dish and if u keep the gravy thick, it can be served as an appetizer too.
In this recipe the lentils balls are not deep-fried, so it is also a very healthy recipe.


Ingredients:

For Spicy Lentil Balls:

Hari Moong Daal(Whole Green Gram)--------------150 gm
Lal Masoor Daal(Red Lentils)---------------------------50 gm
Green chillies-----------------------------------------------2
Red chilly Powder-----------------------------------------1 tsp
Salt-----------------------------------------------------------to taste
Garam Masala----------------------------------------------1 tsp
Garlic--------------------------------------------------------2 cloves

For Gravy:

Onion (Finely Chopped)-----------------------------------1
Tomato(Finely Chopped)----------------------------------2
Cumin Powder----------------------------------------------1 tsp
Coriander Powder------------------------------------------1 tsp
Garam Masala-----------------------------------------------1/2 tsp
Ginger Paste-------------------------------------------------1/2 tsp
Green Coriander(Chopped)-------------------------------1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder-------------------------------------------1/2 tsp
Red Chilly Powder-----------------------------------------1/2 tsp
Green Cardamom-------------------------------------------2
Cinnamon----------------------------------------------------1
Ghee----------------------------------------------------------1 tbsp
Salt------------------------------------------------------------to taste


Method:

1. Soak both the daals for 3 hours.

2. Add green chillies, red chilly powder, salt, garam masala, garlic and make paste of them.

3. Put 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and pour the paste in it.

4. Stir the paste for about 5 minutes till it becomes very thick, turn off the gas.

5. Slightly wet your palm and make small balls from this dough.

6. Now in another pan put 2 tblsp of oil then add green cardamoms and cinnamon stick.

7. Add onions and fry them till they are golden brown.

8. Now add tomatoes, turmeric powder,cumin powder, coriander powder, ginger paste, red chilly powder and salt.

9. Fry till it separates oil.Now add 1 cup of water.

10. When it starts boiling add the daal/lentil balls and let them cook for 5 minutes in low heat.

11. Finely add 1tblsp of ghee, garam masala and chopped coriander and serve the Spicy Lentil Balls hot with rotis or naan.
